Legislators Say the Darndest Things

After being the "go-to" man in the House Appropriations Committee on a budget which set record cuts to public education, Representative John Kavanagh (R-Fountain Hills) had this to say about the coming special session.

"The silver lining," Kavanagh said, "is that we'll probably be working a lot more closely with our Democrat colleagues to protect education from our Republican governor."

Unbelievable.

A similarly Bizarro-world quote from the chairman of the House Education Committee, Representative Rich Crandall (R-Mesa),

The vetoes "cost us everything that we worked on for six months," said Crandall, R-Mesa.

They worked six months on that budget? I don't think so. Even the legislative leaders had not discussed the flat tax until the last week of the budget. They may have postured for six months, but there was very little work done until the last couple of weeks.
