Senator Jack Harper Insults Educators

It was one of those things you had to see to believe, but thankfully the Arizona Legislature films their floor sessions.

On June 9th, 2009 many educators from across the state came to the capitol to ask their legislators not to cut vital funding from public schools. During the opening minutes of the senate floor session many legislators asked for a moment of "personal privilege" to announce the teachers and support personnel from their district in attendance in the senate gallery (balcony viewing) and welcome them.

Then there was senator Jack Harper (R-Deer Valley).

What is really, really sad (or funny) is that Mrs. Harper is a teacher, too.

  1. Very sad. Not funny at all. Maybe "not working" has taken away my sense of humor, but he should be ashamed and embarrassed. Would he like to see my tax return? If I remember correctly, teachers are tax payers and they aren't "begging" for money. They are asking that there not be significant cuts to education. Not a nice guy. I didn't vote for him. Wonder why he doesnt' teach anymore?

  2. I think parents in the Deer Valley District should be aware that their representative holds such a low opinion of the men and women responsible for educating their very own children. I don't believe it bodes well for any issues directly affecting their kids and i believe an educated parent constituency would not re-elect this ego-centric idiot.

  3. I met this guy personally and had the misfortune of speaking with him. He is just as insulting and unproffessional in person and I cannot believe he continues to be elected.

  4. Is this guy a Trough feeder than too? After all he does beg for public funds too every time I vote on an increase of salaries to legislatures. And please public service people are the lowest paid people. They do it for the love of community service not the pay. The guy has some nerve saying this. And his wife is a teacher? really? WOW?

  5. I think it is time for a state-wide teacher strike and send the legislators, including the current governor, to the schools to substitute until they reach an acceptable budget for the schools. As a former teacher in Arizona . . . I am stunned at what is happening.

  6. My goodness, I'm sure he would treat his own children's babysitters with more respect and better pay. I can't believe his wife still lives with him.

I hope they can do better next year.

  8. Wow. Just wow.

As a "trough feeder" who does not want 40 kids in my classroom, who wants my kids to all have text books and novels to have at home, for teachers to have enough classroom supplies without having to buy them on their own, for teachers to be able to make photocopies of handouts for students, etc, etc, etc... I must be so selfish...

  9. Make note of this boob's name - and vote for anyone running against him next election. I don't need this BOTTOM feeder cutting the education budget that supports my children. He can stay home and educate his children...and that would suit me JUST fine!!

  10. Yes it is true that Sen. Harper's wife is a teacher. In fact, she used to work in my District and at my school. As I recall, she was fine, in fact a decent teacher. However he has a long history of not supporting education. If my memory serves me correctly, Sen. Harper had the gual to go to one of our teacher's union luncheons and basically insult everything we were doing. He (to our faces) told us that we were not doing anything to help kids and that basically we were all a waste of space. Do whatever you can to get this guy out of office.

  11. You are so wrong. The gallery of the Senate is full of lobbyists trying to protect their clients' pork in the budget.

The teacher's union will say anything to enfluence an election. They funded the misleading commercials against me in the last primary election. My wife had to look the same people in the eye every day that paid for the commercials.

The provisions in the budget that set the union back isn't because of your opposition to me. It is because your association is a tool of the Democratic Party. In the general election, your money even went to oppose the Republicans that did everything you asked. They are done carrying your water. You need to get rid of John Wright so your will not be so marginalized.

    State Senator Jack Harper
