Sine Die?

Adjourning sine die means the legislature has ended their current session and will not return to work until a new year's session begins.

The Arizona legislature has declared sine die for the 2009 legislative session after sending a budget to the governor in the early hours of July 1st. It was one of the longest sessions in Arizona history.

The Arizona Guardian is reporting that the senate locked their doors this morning so they could officially gavel the end of the session before the governor could veto and return the budget they sent her only hours ago.

If she vetoed it while they were still in session, they would need to stay in session until they passed another budget. If she vetoes it now, she would have to call them back in a special session to pass a new budget.
